This photo was taken last spring. In about 5 weeks it will be possible to see if the daffodils will return after the recent fire at Fort Chaffee. Over 150 mostly vacant buildings were burned to the ground. It was good to hear that nobody was seriously hurt fighting the fires. There are a few of the WWII era barracks that survived, but the remaining landscape is quite eerie. It is dominated by the vast number of tall brick chimneys that still stand, even after the wooden structures were quickly incinerated by the 50mph wind-driven fire. We pass by the old Camp Chaffee area almost daily, and Davis does notice the change. Several fire breaks were dug around the burning buildings with bulldozers, so it will be a nice surprise if the daffodils do return. Why the concern? There are numerous small patches of land within the boundaries of Chaffee that flower each spring, in what appear to be odd places. Since there weren't any protests when it came to putting on the Big Stripes outfit, we made it outside early to load-up before an appointment in town. Daddy put a 2 minute time limit on the activities , so the pressure was on. Davis was excited to be outside with Monkey, especially after all of the rain!   2 minutes remaining: Let the fun begin!    1 minute, 48 seconds remaining: Davis decides that Monkey is slowing him down too much. He hands Monkey (oh foo foo) over to Daddy for safe keeping.   1 minute, 24 seconds remaining: Davis has mixed emotions about being without Monkey. Daddy reminds Davis of the time limit, and wonders aloud if the world height record for jumping in a flashy stripe one-piece outfit will ever be broken.   1 minute, 18 seconds remaining: Davis accepts the challenge. Davis went to his toys first thing this morning after eating a good breakfast. He seems to re-discover toys after he hasn't played with them in a while, and it must bring back some fun memories. It's a good thing because the small car needed a battery change. Elmo's AA's are doing fine, as he giggled, stumbled, and laughed with full energy. (Recycled Photos Post) "Where did Daddy go?" Daddy is out of town for a few days, so he put together some of his favorite Davis photos that didn't make it on the blog or the photo album. I think the photo above was never used because it looked like there was a little despair on his face -like maybe he hadn't been outside riding his Big Truck in a long, long time. But Daddy is notorious for stockpiling blog postings (swim-themed motivational poster for June? -already done). Sometimes he will change Davis' shirt after a series of photos, then make more than one blog posting out of it. That drives Mommy crazy. She thinks that if you have to wait a few weeks to see the photos on the blog, all the spontaneity of the moment is gone. Dad...

A snow day does not mean little boys get to play outside all day... Little boys don't get to watch YouTube videos first thing in the morning... Little boys have to do chores -like picking-up the 1000 pieces in their shape bucket (thanks so much Gramme)... Little boys have to listen to Daddy talk about when he was a little boy, way back in the days of black and white photography... ...about how he never played with his food, and grew-up to be big and strong... ...and how he always listened to his parents, and grew-up to be smart and wise... ...and how he never ignored anyone... ...and how he always went to his room quietly when asked... ...but this little boy knows Daddy tells some funny stories! We'll be going outside to check-out the snow right after we watch the dump truck video! ...
