Road Tripped & Tested

A critical review of some of the places we've been: Oklahoma Aquarium: 4 cheetos It has plenty of things for Davis to check-out! Most of the fish tanks have ledges for kids to stand and see the fish up-close, and the staff doesn't mind if you touch the glass (or maybe Davis is just so cute that he could get away with it). They have a lot of interactive exhibits, some that involve getting splashed! (Davis loved that part). The walk-through shark tank is incredible! It was worth the drive, even if it's the only planned stop in Tulsa (it's actually in neighboring Jenks). Bonus: It's less crowded on Sunday mornings when it first opens -and head straight for the shark tank. When we go back: Spend more time! The aquarium has a 'extended-item' snack bar, but it's not always open. Plan to spend at least 2 hours. Admission: FREE for Davis, reasonable for us with 2 military discounts Tulsa Air and Space Museum: 3 cheetos It's a good place to go if i...

corn

It's the only way Davis will eat it -on the cob. No butter, no salt, please. ...and plenty of napkins! Davis knows the best kernels are always on the edges maybe he learned this technique by watching a squirrel?

O Christmas Tree

Davis is learning the O Christmas Tree song -maybe he'll have it down by the special day, but of course it's cute with him saying just a few words of it already. He was really excited to help put-up the tree and decorate. At first he called it a 'big flower' but before he went to bed he said 'bye Christmas tree.' He's going to be so excited to see it everyday for the next month! This seemed to be Davis' favorite ornament. He found a special place for it and hung it all by himself. He enjoys the lights, different shapes and figures on the tree. Davis Davis Davis was in awe at all of the stuff that had to be put on the tree! It was hard work, but I'm sure he would love to do it every night before he goes to bed! Davis thinks he can charm his way to get some presents placed under the tree. We Wish You a Merry Christmas! ...

Wonderment

Music Box

Officially, it's known as the Mozart Magic Cube. Davis knows it as his music box, and he's had it just about all of his life. It's been pretty neat seeing him develop with the toy. It took him a while before he was able to focus his strength to push the over-sized buttons for the different instruments. Then came the day when he figured-out the on/off button. Before then, Davis would hit the off button accidentally, and it would really upset him that his favorite toy might be broken. He would lay on the floor and scream -really scaring us. Of course it was a serious issue for Davis, but we were relieved when one day he simply picked-up the toy, brought it over to one of us and said "fix it?" Now Davis can name all the different instruments -piano, harp, flute, violin, french horn and he can also say 'orchestra'. He can push the one you ask for, but just as important, he can independently search through all of his toys, find it,...

Thankful for Family and Friends

This Thanksgiving we are very thankful for being able to spend time with family and friends. It has been a year of re-adjustment for our family (Daddy's first Thanksgiving at home since 2002!) It's nice to be in a situation with a lot more stability and with such a wonderful little addition to the family! We feel so blessed for the love and support that has gotten us to where we are today. We enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving lunch with Grandpa AJ and Great Grandmother Tootsie! Then, it was off to Pocola for Thanksgiving dinner at Mammy's (sometimes he gets a little playful in the car seat when he's asked to cover-up) We enjoyed seeing everyone, and we're thankful for our times together! And we look forward to spending more time with friends and family during the holiday season!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We got Davis dressed-up this morning for his Thanksgiving pictures. It was a little cold, but Davis was not going to wear his hat- no matter what. The 'look at the airplane' trick worked for only a few seconds. He was really acting like a little turkey. If only he knew what mommy does with turkeys. Next, it took a few runs with the truck to fully recover from the hat trauma: Davis was acting like it had been a while since he had been outside. It was only yesterday that he drove his big Ford truck around for hours -until the battery ran-down. He insisted on running, wanting his big truck, wanting his lawn chair -wanting anything- except being still for a photo. But, he was willing to negotiate. During discussions, suckers were offered. Photos were taken. Everything was well. Davis was thankful the hat was put away... aaaaaa Behold the Sucker (thankful that Davis was treated to a good supply of suckers on Halloween!) Motorkiekles

Davis is picking-up on a lot more new words, and he is pronouncing some of his old words a lot better. But one word has remained constant. Anytime you say the word motorcycle, Davis responds, 'motor-kiekle' He says it slow and deliberate -almost like he is the one saying it the right way, and we should model our speech after his. He does have quite a few words and phrases that are fun to say. Instead of handing something to you and asking you to throw it away, (which provides you the opportunity to say 'no, thank you') Davis will just put it in your hand and say 'oh-foo-foo'. Davis first started doing this when he was still crawling. We thought someone had taught him to say the phrase as he hands-over little things that he finds on the carpet. But, we've asked everyone we know, and it seems to be a phrase he invented out of necessity. Now he's got mommy and daddy saying it to each other. Maybe it will end soon enough -before he's at baseball practice...

Dancing with the Star

He's the star of the show!  First thing this morning, Davis wanted to wear the big hat.  As soon as it went on, Davis began a perfomance like no other! This is one of Davis' most challenging moves- simulated finger snaps combined with a hearty "Yeah!" Davis asking mommy to dance mommy is teaching Davis the 'cabbage patch kid' dance move Davis declares his superiority on the dance floor, does a quick step, and ends the dance with his signature slide step. The judges gave him a perfect score, a cold cup of milk, and a cookie.
