It's a decision that needs to be made early in life.
It's not a 'good guy' or 'bad guy' thing, really.
It's a matter of style.
In cowboy-western movies, a white hat was almost always associated with the good guy.
A most notable exception would be John Wayne's character in True Grit.
In country music, Brad Paisley does a good job representing the white hat fraternity.
And, the black hat community can proudly claim Tim McGraw.
