The fortune-telling fish kept insisting that everyone was tired. Not exactly what we needed to hear before embarking on our trek. We walked through the River Market down to Broadway Street. We then proceeded over the bridge to the stadium for many innings of jump-around exhaustion.
In the end, the fish was 100% correct.
We have a system worked-out when we attend baseball games at Dickey-Stephens Ballpark. First, we park for free at the NLR municipal building parking lot. Next, we hop on a trolley at the nearby stop. On this ride, we got to see a lot of the tulip plantings. Thousands of tulips are planted in large planters, medians, and green spaces around businesses. There were a lot of tulips in full bloom, but it will be another week before they are at their highest peak.
The blue line trolley makes a short trip around downtown NLR before heading south over the river. At the second stop in LR, we thank the trolley driver, and cross the street. The extra-scenic trip to Flying Fish is complete. No parking hassles and excellent food only add to a great experience.
The walk to the stadium can be fun in good weather. It was a little windy & cool this time. The River Market area is usually buzzing, but not tonight. The steps at Robinson Auditorium are always fun for Davis to re-enact the 'Rocky Balboa step-running, champ of the world scene.' But not tonight. The steps were occupied by someone that quite possibly had to leave a place for not being nice. Walking over the Broadway bridge is fun, but nothing can top our first trip. The Arkansas Queen paddle boat passed directly underneath us. No sign of any boat traffic tonight. Next time, we may take the trolley back over the river. Another option would be to walk the pedestrian-only bridge behind the Peabody Hotel.
Following the game, the NLR municipal parking lot is a 5 minute stroll from the stadium. Even tough the game was a sell-out, traffic was non-existent exiting our lot. Riverfront Drive to Pike Avenue was easy-going as well.
Bonus: Davis knows the most important part of negotiating a traffic circle (intersection of Riverfront & Pike) -ask him sometime about it!
