Big Time in the Big Apple

Davis is a good traveler
who makes it fun to get out
and go different places!

NYC Travel Tip:
Unless you plan on wearing a winter coat
for 75 degree weather -you're going to
stick-out as a non-New Yorker.
Go ahead and wear Royals gear.
You'll meet more smart people this way.
From the airport to Grand Central Terminal,
we were expecting crushing crowds.
Surprisingly, this wasn't what we encountered.

NYC Travel Tip:
If someone wearing a warm weather
winter coat takes a less than pleasant tone
about your Royals gear-
Simply place one hand on your ear
& talk into the opposite sleeve.
They will leave the area.
Quickly.
The food court at Central Mall
is usually more crowded
than what we experienced in New York.

NYC Travel Tip:
If you hear music coming from somewhere
in a train station -find it & enjoy.
It's usually live music with
accomplished performers.
Businesses & organizations
frequently sponsor musicians
and competitions.
Grand Central does have a
"much-fancier-than-your-city's"
mailbox.

NYC Travel Tip:
If it's wet, don't assume it's "just water."
Even if it's raining.
(Rain rinses good along with the bad
and collects in high-potency puddles)
Here, we think of a kid splashing in a
mud puddle as almost Norman-Rockwell-esque.
In NYC, mud puddles are unique
-in a bio-hazard, modern-art kind of way.

It's fairly clean, too.
(DJ is using the "hovering sleeve
pulled over the hand technique"
on the stair railing)

NYC Travel Tip:
The TSA allows each traveler to fly
with a quart-sized ziplock bag
that contains fluids, creams, & aerosols.
Each container must be less than 3.4 oz.
Fill your ziplock with travel size
hand sanitizer bottles & nothing else.

Yes, you will need that much.

Go to a Dollar Tree and buy
enough bottles to fill a quart bag for $5.
In NYC, that same number of bottles will cost $50
(except the bottles will be smaller)
(larger sizes are not available)
+ Tax.

Grand Central Terminal is such an amazing,
awe-inspiring space!

NYC Travel Tip:
Native Yankees enjoy having their pictures
taken at "touristy places" too.
They will inevitably ask a Non-Yankee-looking
person to take their picture
(they won't trust a fellow Yank, for some reason).
When asked to take a photo-
take the phone and do a few random gestures.
Then, tell them to say, "Go Royals!"
Take multiple photos in quick succession.
Expressions start with smiles
and end with awkward, open-mouth glares.

New York's Finest!

NYC Travel Tip:
Expect the unexpected when crossing
the street (or getting pulled-over).
Law enforcement takes the form
of anything that can support the weight
of a few flashing lights & a siren/squawker:
NYPD mo-ped -saw one 'puttering'
down the street in full-on pursuit
NYPD golf cart -to transport
white-collar criminals?
NYPD soccer-mom van -towing a flatbed trailer.

欢乐中国的明天!

How about having Chinese food tomorrow?      Great! December 13th is Chinese Tomorrow! What is Chinese Tomorrow? When families get together for Chinese food and celebrate everything that is 'put-off' until tomorrow.   Here are a few rules: Everyone wears black (the actual day 'tomorrow' is dark & never sees a sunrise) Celebrate things that are put-off until tomorrow (find joy in those normally unpleasant procrastinations) Choose just one person to open a single fortune cookie (everyone else must wait until tomorrow ) Blog about it (post the fortune's lucky numbers as the title) Enjoy the great food! (Chinese food buffets are the best!)  欢乐中国的明天!

Happy New Year!
